Stevens + Associates was established in 1978 and offers specialized services in

the areas of architecture and landscape architecture. We are located in downtown

San Francisco at 855 Sansome Street (415) 397-6500.

Stevens + Associates have served as Architecture and Landscape consultants for

design and construction management of numerous large-scale multi-million dollar

projects.

South San Francisco BART Station

This $40 million project utilized the design / build method for a new station and

underground train lines as a part of the SFO airport expansion project. Notable

features and design elements that were incorporated onto this project included:

- Passive design limited mechanical system - Translucent, insulated Kalwall panels

and clerestories.

- Deep roof overhangs at entry - Large clear circulation area.

South San Francisco BART Garage

We also created an innovative 1100 car parking garage, which features a two story,

low precast sill ht, structure that has wave bars and diagonal grilles. Details including

stepped landscape at El Camino Real, large stair openings, vertical stair tower fillials,

and added landscaping at the elevations which were specifically designed for a softer

look and feel.

St. Regis Museum Tower Hotel and Condos, 3rd Street at Mission Street

The St. Regis Museum Tower is a 40 floor mixed-use high rise development

located in the heart of San Francisco's SOMA museum district. The building

comprises 22 floors of hotel, 15 floors of condominiums, 3 floors of African

American arts and 3 floors of lobby and assembly space.

SOM (Skidmore, Owings and Merrill) are the lead architects, Stevens + Associates

are associate architects for the project and are involved in every aspect of its

architectural development. The developer is Carpenter, Jordan, Starwood.

525 Golden Gate - PUC Office Building

Stevens + Associates' joint venture with KMD Architects (Kaplan, McLaughlin,

Diaz) for 525 Golden Gate Avenue is a 14 floor building comprising 250,000 sq. ft.

of prime office space in the civic center of San Francisco. The building has been

designed as a prototype for the City of San Francisco as a leader in sustainable

design. The developer is the City of San Francisco, Public Utilities Commission.

San Andreas Water Treatment Plant, San Mateo County

Finalist for the 1993 NOMA Awards for Excellence in Architecture. We introduced

natural light onto what is normally a very industrial type building. The skylight is

carried all the way through the building into the end vestibule / lobbies and articulated

on the entries. Natural light has also been introduced into the galleries, giving transparency

and energy - efficient lighting to the ozone / water processing structures. A process water

overspill display fountain was also added to the adjacent ozonation contactor building.

Concord BART Maintenance Shop Facility

This $12 million BART Shop Facility project involved the expansion and renovation

of an existing maintenance facility along the BART Concord line. Many energy

efficient and sustainable features were built into the expansion including:

- Elastomeric double insulated roof - Water separators.

- Insulated wall panels - insulated block walls.

Lehman Family Retreat, Jackson, CA

This retreat house was also built with many energy efficient and sustainable

features, including:

- Earth roof and walls -Vinyl windows and doors

- Southern overhangs - Natural thru put ventilation

FILA Store Design, Pleasanton

This angular shop is a typical of the chain of retail stores. It is an existing visitor

attraction in itself. The chrome display system, the space grid fluorescent lighting,

the glass display cases, hanging plants and brightly colored shirts attract a wide

array of customers.

Housing Developers Office

This community based development facility has two functions. Firstly, it

has office and work rooms for its staff. Secondly, it serves as a meeting

space to educate first-time home owners. Its office furnishings can be easily

be moved and quickly adapted for evening training sessions.

Mid - Rise Loft Housing

Dr. Carlton B. Goodltt Condominiums - $4M, 8 story loft complex

of 32 units, San Francisco, California.

Office - Housing Condos

This four story inner city building consists of medical condo offices at the

main floor and five units of condos above. Parking is in the basement.

State Office Building, Oakland, CA

2nd Place Design Competition, Sub consultant to Ellerbee Becket.

This rich and complex program of a glass sail tower and lower forecourt was a

response to the bay-side location of the site. Fashioned after a sailboat's sail,

the tower is designed to abridge the City Civic Complex to the east and the

Federal Office Building to the South. The entry atrium is the visual intersection

which is envisioned as being partly open, partly closed - a dynamic structural

and glass gateway. This design - build competition entry was judged first by

the jury but the commission was lost to DMJM Keating because it was too dramatic.

Richmond Transit Village
Landscape Design

BART Transit Village Housing Complex. High density inner-city housing schemes

clustered around large transit hubs represent the new direction for future

developments around the Bay area and the State. The project comprises 215

affordable housing units and comprehensive landscaping surrounding an

upgraded BART / AMTRAK intermodal station. In collaboration with

Hezmalhalch (prime architects). Due to the density of the master plan and the

noise generated by BART and AMTRAK lines and station, careful landscape

screening design and lighting strategies play important roles in achieving 'livability'

and safety within the scheme, and therefore the overall success of the concept.
