Fetid Adder's Tongue

This is Fetid Adder's Tongue, Scoliopus bigelovii, a member of the lilly family. It grows in redwood forests. I found this one along the Cataract Trail near Alpine Lake on Mount Tamalpais, Marin County, CA. These plants were extremely common along the trail that day, but very few were in bloom.
