Western Lights at the 5th String Music Store

Corner of Alhambra and J Street, Sacramento

Western Lights Band

Western Lights will be performing at the place of their beginning, which came from jam sessions at the 5th String music store in Sacramento some 15 years ago.  From those early days Western Lights evolved into a fine local band with strong roots in traditional bluegrass and gospel music featuring nice harmony vocals and banjo, fiddle, mandolin and guitar as primary lead instrumentation.  The group also enjoys diversity in their music performing Western Swing and other related music styles.  The group has been performing for about 12 years releasing their first recording, Favorites of Ours, in 2000.  Band members from left to right are: Melvin Fong, Bill Ward, Bobbie Kuhn, Mike Brooks and Gene Mason.

Here is how others have described Western Lights and their CD, "Favorites of Ours".

"Favorites Of Ours is mellow; it’s smooth; and it’s just great listening!  It is filled with traditional favorites that run the gamut from bluegrass to gospel, western swing to old timey, and fiddle tunes to country blues, all thoughtfully performed by great musicians."  -Larry Kuhn, Former Editor, Sacramento Area Bluegrass News

"The Bluegrass and Western Swing played by Western Lights will have you tapping your toes and wishing the café Espresso had a dance floor."  -Borders, December 2000 News and Local Events

Tickets for this house concert are $10 per person and can be purchased at the 5th String any time up to performance time.  Come on out to the 5th String December 10th to see this fine Sacramento area band.
