Why a Green River Ranch Dexter?
Why?
Because we love them!

At Green River Ranch, we are continually working to improve our herd management program. New methods of pasture utilization, parasite control and stress reduction during animal handling are but a few of our concerns. Education through seminars, written articles, discussions with other livestock people, and hands on experience form the core of our management program. We closely monitor the methods we employ to be certain that we get the results we want. We also remain adaptable to deal with changing conditions such as weather, mineral deficiencies in feed, and other things beyond our control.
At Green River Ranch, we breed for a specific type of Dexter through genetic management. We selectively breed for a small to medium size Dexter with good confirmation, a well developed hind quarter, good udder or testicle development, and good temperment. Dexters not exhibiting these characteristics are culled from our breeding program. We do not dehorn our Dexters because we feel that horns are an identifiable characteristic of this breed.

At
Green River Ranch, all of our Dexters are put through a pre-conditioning
program. We strongly adhere to a scheduled worming and vaccination
program as well as daily monitoring to enable treatment of any ailment
at the onset.
At Green River Ranch, a free breeding to an appropriate Dexter bull is
issued upon sale of each Dexter heifer or mature cow. We provide
assistance in training, showing, breeding, and dealing with any problems
you encounter while owning a Dexter. We will actively seek answers
to any questions you have about the breed.

At Green River Ranch, we strive to be selective in our placement of Dexters. We want to place them with people who realize that the responsibility of owning livestock is a full time commitment, and not something to be taken lightly.
At Green River Ranch, we campaign the Dexter breed at every opportunity. We participate in livestock shows, such as the California State Fair, and have created or inspired articles about Dexters in national publications as well as local newspapers. We have attended parades, school functions, and even Nativity scenes to promote the Dexter breed. We are also active members of the American Dexter Cattle Association.
