In gottes namen Amen Ich Jacob Rieth in Kanamach Taunschib Sommerset Caundi bin dem leib nach krank und schwach aber gott seÿ Dank noch beÿ gutem wissen und verstand Erstlich übergebe ich meinem leib der erden und meine seel befehle ich in der Hand des Almächtigen gottes Erstens Verordne und bevolmächtige ich Dab mein haubfrau Regina soll haben von meinem weltlichen güttern womit mich gott gesegnet hat in dieser welt nahmlich ein Kuh mein rohr ofen und ein bett und bettlath 2 tens soll mein Exegender meiner frau Regina ein kleiner disch und ein kleine kist machen lassen von vendu geld mein übriges farent gut soll verkauft werden und soll damit die unkosten bezahlt werden wan noch übrig ist wan alles bezahlt ist so so soll das übrige geld in für theil gemacht werden ein theil vor meine frau Regina ein theil vor mein sohn Jacob ein theil vor meine thochder barbara und ein theil vor mein tochder Susana ihr kinder mein Exegender soll ihr theil nahmen und soll haubrath darvier kauften und mein thochder Susana soll es gelehnt haben bis ihr älste kinder auf sein ält komt für wochen nach meinen Tod soll mein farend gut auch öffentlichen vendu verkauft werden und mein ligent gut dab land soll auf auf der vendu verkauft werden wan es auf für hünderd thaler komt wird es aber nicht auf der vendu verkauft so soll der Exegender es verlehnen Ein achr darnach soll er es verkauften und mein frau Regina soll der renth davon haben zu ihrem gebrauch wan das land verkauft ist so soll das gelt verlehnt werden und mein frau Regina soll die Introsen davon haben so lang sie meine witfrau ist oder meinen namen führt so bald als sie sich verheirath oder stirbt so soll das geld vertheil werden unter meinen erben in gleich theil zu meine tochder barbara und Jacob und meine tochder Susana irh theil soll drei? English Translation:
In the name of God, Amen, I Jacob Reed of Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, am sick and weak of body, but God be thanked of still of good knowledge and intellect. First, I give my body over to the earth and my soul I command into the hand of Almighty God. In the first place, I decree and authorize that my wife Regina shall have of my worldly goods with which God has blessed me in this world, namely one cow, my pipe-oven and a bed and bedstead. Two things, a small table and a small chest should my Executor keep back of the sale money for my wife Regina. My remaining movable goods should be sold and the debts should be paid from it. If anything is left over when all is paid, the remaining money should be divided into four parts; one part for my wife Regina, one part for my son Jacob, one part for my daughter Barbara and one part for my daughter Susanna. For her children, should my executor take her part and buy of it household goods, and my daughter Susanna should have it lent until her eldest child comes of age. In the week following my death my movable goods should be sold at public sale and my stationary goods—the land—should be sold at public sale. If it comes up to a hundred dollars but not sell at public sale, thus should my my Executor lend it. An acre thereafter should he sell and my wife Regina should have the rent of it to her use. When the land is sold, the money should be lent, and my wife Regina should have the interest from it as long as she remains my widow or bears my name. As soon as she remarries or dies, then should that money be divided among my heirs in equal parts to my daughter Barbara and Jacob and my daughter Susanna. Her part should be set aside until her children come of age, and that third part my Executor should take and buy from it her clothing and household goods as she needs. The Executor must clear my land and that which I have sold to Michael Miller, and must give a third out of my third to Michael Miller, according to the agreement that I Jacob Reed, and Michael Miller have with one another. It should be paid out of the money owing to Michael Miller. If it is not sufficient, he should take it from the other money until he can pay it. I appoint and decree my neighbor Jacob Kauffman, waggoner, as the Executor of my remaining estate. This is my last will and testament. So I have signed myself by indicating with my own hand and seal.
