Christopher T. Carey maintains a
permanent residence in Sacramento, CA, where he and his Chinese wife live in the
South Land Park area with two Siberian Huskies. Born in San Francisco, Mr. Carey
is currently employed by the State of California as an Associate Treasury
Program Officer for the State Treasurer’s Office. Mr. Carey writes as an
active correspondent and special projects associate for the newsletter of
Applied Science & Analysis, Incorporated, an organisation that serves as an
international coordinating body for worldwide chemical, biological, and
environmental concerns, and has published a historical reference book on US
chemical and biological defense technology developments, among his other
writings. Former occupational venues include Saudi Arabia, where he lived and
worked for 12 years as a consultant on medical aspects of NBC defense, and
China. Past professional work also includes 30 years of experience in cardiac
and pulmonary clinical science as a technologist.
Formerly a member of the flight surgeon’s office at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota (SAC) in the 1960s, Mr. Carey has maintained life-long interests in aerospace medicine & human factors science, aircraft egress & life support technology, and aviation history, since separation from active duty in 1969. A mountaineer of many years standing, the study of cardiopulmonary physiology and the effects of high altitude on the human ability to function have long been a special area of concern.
As a writer for a
number of domestic and international publications on NBC defense and aviation
topics, Mr. Carey maintains a noteworthy personal reference collection of life
support equipment and ejection seat systems and enthusiastically supports what
has been recently described as “flightgear
archaeology”, or the historical study of aeronautical & space life
support equipment technology.
Mr. Carey is a member of the Sacramento chapter of the Air Force
Association and the US Naval Institute. He is a former member of the Aerospace
Medical Association, maintains ties with the School of Aerospace Medicine at
Brooks AFB and the military aviation life support community, is on the Board of
Directors of the McClellan Aviation Museum Foundation in Sacramento (CA), and is
crew-chief of the museum’s ex-NASA F-104B Starfighter (USAF 57-1303, NASA
N819NA).
